Flag Change Without the Delay

Flag Change Without the Delay
Super Admin · Aug 04, 2026 ·3 min read

When a vessel changes flag, name, ownership or class, its radio identity changes with it, and every system that carries that identity needs updating before the next port.

Typically that means a new ship station licence and MMSI, updated Inmarsat registrations, reprogramming of the DSC equipment, EPIRB, AIS and SSAS, an LRIT conformance report, updated VDR configuration, and refreshed GMDSS records and test reports, including the EPIRB/AIS annual test report.

Order matters: equipment cannot be reprogrammed until the new identities are issued, and some registrations depend on others. Doing the work in the wrong sequence is a common cause of delays and deficiencies.

Visiotech coordinates the full set of reprogramming and re-certification so the vessel arrives at its next port with its radio identity consistent across every system.
